Competent authority on adoption in Denmark

The National Social Appeals Board (Ankestyrelsen) in Denmark is the competent authority under the Hague Convention on Intercountry Adoption.

The National Social Appeals Board handles inquiries from adoptees, adoptive families, birth families and foreign authorities regarding post-adoption services and illicit practices.

This includes (among other things):

  • assistance in searching for birth families abroad
  • assistance in accessing adoption documents and information abroad and in Denmark
  • assistance to birth families searching for adoptees in Denmark
  • distribution of follow-up reports to countries of origin.
